What is the Gas(Fuel) Gauge?

Using the analogy of a fuel tank in a car, state of charge(SOC) estimation is often called the “Gas Gauge” or “Fuel Gauge” funciton.

The Gauge IC is a single-chip SBS-compliant gauge IC designed for Li-ion and Li-Polymer rechargeable smart battery pack applications.
This device includes a Coulomb-counting ADC and a multi-channel data-acquisition ADC for accurate current, voltage and temperature measurement. The integrated micro-controller combined with embedded firmware serve
as a powerful battery gas gauge management.
